To
achieve the best image quality on the monitor when the motion picture
camera is not running, the "auto/manual" switch on the
C-5 must be set to auto and the FLX
must be in the film mode. The reason is that when the film camera
is not running and you have the FLX set for film, the video assist is not
in the flicker-free
mode giving a better video image. Once the camera starts, the video assist
gets a pulse through the special power cable causing the video assist to
go into flicker-free
mode automatically. The power cable to the C-5 must be the type that supplies
a shutter pulse signal from the motion picture camera. This would be either
a 3-pin fisher for Arri 24 volt cameras or an 11-pin fisher for Arri 12
volt cameras.
The Moviecam SL uses a 5-pin fisher for sync and a 3-pin fisher for power
to a 2-pin fisher in a "Y" cable format. When using a C-5 that
is re-housed by Moviecam, the power cable is not used. You do need a sync
cable coming from
the camera which is a 5-pin fisher cable to the color-5's 2-pin fisher
connector. The shutter pulse is required when you have the FLX in the film
mode. Again,
this will give you the best quality video image when the
film camera is not running.
